¶ J.G. Schelter & Giesecke was a type foundry and machine factory founded in Leipzig in 1819 by Johann Andreas Gottfried Schelter and Christian Friedrich Giesecke. In 1946, Schelter & Giesecke was nationalized and became part of VEB Typoart. After Schelter withdrew from the company in 1839 and Giesecke passed away in 1851, the firm was continued by Giesecke’s sons. In 1863, a branch was established in Vienna, which operated independently from 1870 under the name Gießerei Meyer & Schleicher. After the production facility in Naundörfchen became too small in the 1870s, the type foundry built and moved into a factory building at Brüderstraße 26/28 in Leipzig’s Seeburg district, which was destroyed during World War II. DAS SCHWEIZER GRAFIKDESIGN- UND
Typografieschaffen entwickelte sich im 20. Jahrhundert.
